So far but so gone. [Pilot Post]
While this blog may be episodic in nature, I'm hoping to update at least 2-3 times a week. I'll include pictures and possibly video for those who can't stomach lengthy text. Huzzah!
Earlier today I wrote some thoughts inflight. Here they are:
I’m composing this post on the plane somewhere above Alaska cruising at roughly 600 mph. Since I have no blog suitably functional yet, I’d thought I’d spend sometime reflecting on what has transpired.
As my first major international flight, I’m enjoying the experience immensely. Departing from Chicago, I bid my mom farewell at the gate and anxiously boarded the plane. Carefully shuffling through the narrow aisle among scores of Japanese travelers, who misidentified me as Japanese and became visibly embarrassed when I proved otherwise, I found my seat. So far, the flight attendants have done an excellent job at routinely providing refreshments and snacks during this eleven hour journey to Narita, Japan, and my spirits remain high. Currently, we’re about halfway to our destination and I’ve kept myself mostly entertained by reading, napping, playing Bejeweled Deluxe 2 (wisest purchase of my life), restroom breaks, observing my fellow travelers and, most importantly, eating. On another note, the inflight movies stink.
Not known for their variety and quality of cuisine, United Airlines pleasantly surprised me with their lunch packages. I had the option between pasta or chicken entrees and a small, neat salad and a saturated, not-to-be-trusted brownie that I ended up scarfing down indiscriminately after several minutes of serious consideration.
I’ll post more when I’m settled. They’re serving some kind of dinner now and I wouldn’t miss it for the world.
